Jennifer Lee Wilson, a 48-year-old foster mother from Indiana, has been sentenced to six years in prison, with one year suspended to probation, for the reckless homicide of her 10-year-old foster son, Dakota Stevens.
The tragic incident occurred in April 2024 when Wilson, weighing 340 pounds, lay on top of the 90-pound boy for approximately five minutes as punishment for alleged misbehavior. This action led to Dakota’s death from mechanical asphyxia.

Prior to the incident, Dakota had sought help from a neighbor, expressing his desire to be adopted due to alleged abuse at home. Despite his plea, Wilson retrieved him, and the fatal punishment followed soon after.
Wilson was arrested in Michigan after pleading guilty in October 2024 and was formally sentenced in January 2025.
