Egypt Proposes Alternative Gaza Reconstruction Plan

Gaza

Egypt is countering U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal for Gaza with its own reconstruction plan that aims to rebuild the region without displacing its Palestinian population. Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development of a multi-phase recovery strategy, which seeks to address Gaza’s infrastructure needs while ensuring that its residents remain in the region.

The first phase of Egypt’s plan, which is set to begin after an emergency Arab summit on February 27, will focus on clearing debris and repairing essential infrastructure, such as roads and healthcare facilities. Secure areas will be established to house displaced residents in mobile units, while humanitarian aid will be allowed to enter the region. Over five years, Egypt intends to create thousands of jobs as part of its long-term recovery plan.

This alternative plan directly challenges Trump’s idea of “taking over” Gaza and displacing its two million residents, a proposal that has drawn significant criticism worldwide. The Trump administration’s suggestion for resettling Palestinians in Egypt and Jordan has been rejected by both countries, while Egypt’s plan aims to preserve Gaza’s demographic and territorial integrity.

Alongside efforts to secure funding from European diplomats and Arab nations, Egypt is exploring the creation of a Palestinian administration and police force to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction, refuting Trump’s assertion of needing external control.
