Gunman Attacks a Care Home In Croatia, Resulting In Multiple Deaths And Injuries

Police report that a gunman has killed several individuals at a care home in central Croatia. Local media indicate that five people were killed and others injured in Daruvar.

The Index news portal revealed that the suspect fled but was later apprehended at a nearby café. Authorities were alerted around 10am that the man had used firearms to cause the casualties at the home.

The regional police have stated that the suspect is “under supervision.” Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic expressed his shock and condolences on Twitter, mourning the murder of five people at the Daruvar care home and wishing recovery for the wounded.

The gunman, born in 1973 and a former fighter from the 1991-95 Croatian war, was also a relative of one of the nursing home residents. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the attack.

Daruvar’s mayor, Damir Lnenicek, told that the attack has shocked everyone. He mentioned that the cause and trigger of the incident are unclear and will be determined by the investigation.

The tragedy occurred at a private care home with about 20 residents. Daruvar, a spa town, has a population of approximately 8,500 people.
