Heartbroken American Woman Onijah Andrew Detained Under Protective Custody in UAE

Onijah Andrew Robinson, the woman from New York who gained attention for traveling to Pakistan to marry a young man, continues to be in the spotlight as she remains in protective custody in the UAE while attempting to return to the U.S.

The 33-year-old mother of two, who was rejected by her Karachi lover, found herself in trouble after she went missing for several days, prompting a search by both her family and U.S. authorities.

Robinson arrived in Dubai on February 7 via an Emirates flight, intending to catch a connecting flight after a short stopover. However, she entered Dubai on an on-arrival visa, which led to complications.

Her family and officials in New York were expecting her arrival, but when she failed to reach her destination, a search was launched. Videos of her wandering the streets of the UAE surfaced, after which her movements were restricted, and she was taken into protective custody.

Last month, Robinson had traveled to Karachi to marry 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon, whom she had met online, but he rejected her due to his family’s objections. Robinson refused to return to the U.S., staying in a shelter and later being admitted to a psychiatric ward. After her case attracted attention, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori helped extend her expired visa and arranged her return to America. Robinson eventually left Pakistan for the U.S.
