Hezbollah reaffirms commitment to strikes against Israel

Hezbollah

Hezbollah has retracted its earlier statements suggesting support for a ceasefire in its conflict with Israel, vowing to continue rocket attacks. Acting leader Sheikh Naim Qassem initially supported efforts for a truce led by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri but later clarified that any cessation of hostilities would only occur if Israel halts its offensive in Gaza.

Since October 2023, Hezbollah has launched multiple rocket barrages from Lebanon in solidarity with Hamas. Despite ongoing Israeli airstrikes and ground operations, the group maintains that its military capabilities remain intact. Hezbollah has issued a statement reaffirming its support for Hamas while rejecting the idea of a unilateral ceasefire without addressing the broader conflict in Gaza.

Israel has reported killing several senior Hezbollah commanders and dismantling significant militant infrastructure along the border. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has characterized Hezbollah as “weaker than it has been for many years,” a claim disputed by the group, which insists on its continued resistance.

The ongoing conflict has devastated Lebanon, resulting in over 1,300 casualties and displacing more than a million people. Efforts toward a ceasefire appear uncertain, as Hezbollah remains committed to supporting Palestinian fighters, signaling a protracted conflict ahead.
