India Has Imposed Curfew in Border Areas with Bangladesh Amid Ongoing Political Turmoil in Dhaka

India’s Border Security Forces (BSF) have imposed a Curfew in border areas with Bangladesh due to political upheaval in Dhaka, where Sheikh Hasina has fled to New Delhi seeking asylum. Reports indicate that the BSF has recommended a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am in Meghalaya’s border areas within 200 meters of Bangladesh.

The political crisis in Bangladesh, marked by student protests toppling Sheikh Hasina’s government, has led to diplomatic setbacks for India. There is an unfenced stretch of 915.35 kilometers along the Bangladesh border, and five Indian states share a 4,096-kilometer border with Bangladesh.

The BSF is on high alert, and tensions are elevated near the Bangladesh border and West Bengal. The Indian government has ordered strict controls on border crossings and has restricted entry without proper documentation.

The Petrapole Land Port has halted goods flow, leaving hundreds of Indian trucks stranded in Bangladesh. Additionally, a nighttime curfew is in place in Meghalaya, and railway services between the two countries have been suspended indefinitely since mid-July.
