India plans to disband cantonments, convert them to military stations

KARACHI: According to the Times of India and the Hindustan Times, India intends to disband cantonments and convert them into “exclusive military stations.”

According to news reports published the day before, 62 cantonments across the country will be converted into military bases, with the Indian army exercising “absolute control” over them.

Furthermore, the civilian areas will be merged with local municipalities, which will be in charge of their upkeep, among other things.

Yol in Himachal Pradesh was the first cantonment to be renamed a military station under the plan, with Secunderabad and Nasirabad among the cantonments set to be shrunk.
