Indian Fighter Jet Crashes in Rajasthan; Investigation Launched

An Indian Air Force MiG-29 fighter jet crashed near Barmer, Rajasthan, on Monday due to a technical malfunction, but the pilot successfully ejected and was unharmed. No injuries or damage to property were reported.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) stated on X that the MiG-29 experienced a critical technical issue during a routine night training mission in the Barmer sector, which led to the pilot ejecting from the aircraft. The pilot is safe, and there were no casualties or damage on the ground. A Court of Inquiry has been initiated to investigate the incident.

Barmer’s Superintendent of Police, Narendra Meena, told PTI that the crash occurred in an area away from populated zones. Firefighters faced challenges reaching the site due to the rough terrain.

In a related event on June 4, an IAF Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter jet crashed near Shirasgaon village in Nashik around 1:20 pm. Both the pilot and co-pilot ejected safely, although the aircraft caught fire, which was later brought under control. Debris from the crash was spread over a 500-meter area.

IAF and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) security and technical teams inspected the crash site.

Earlier in March, a Tejas aircraft crashed near Jaisalmer during an operational training flight. The pilot ejected safely before the crash. The IAF announced that a Court of Inquiry would investigate the cause of the accident.
