Israeli Forces Target Gaza Hospitals in Escalating Conflict

A baby died, and numerous patients faced jeopardy due to Israeli gunfire around Gaza’s largest hospital, Al Shifa Medical Complex, where clashes involving Hamas and its ally Islamic Jihad occurred.

The groups reported violent confrontations in the Al-Nasr neighborhood and Al-Shati camp in Gaza. The Al-Nasr area houses major hospitals.

The hospital staff expressed concerns about potential patient deaths if moved, citing Israeli weapons fire as a threat. While most staff and sheltered individuals left, 500 patients remained.

The hospital faced Israeli shelling, leading to the suspension of operations and the tragic death of a newborn in the incubator due to fuel shortage. Israeli troops clashed with Hamas fighters around Gaza City, where Al Shifa is situated.

The Israeli military spokesperson mentioned the need for hospital evacuation to address Hamas threats but denied allegations of using hospitals for military purposes. Israel reduced the death toll by 200 from Hamas raids on October 7 but claimed ongoing rocket attacks from Gaza into southern Israel. Palestinian officials reported a death toll of 11,078 in Gaza, with concerns about electricity shortage affecting vulnerable patients at Al Shifa and other hospitals.
