The Mysuru-Darbhanga Bhagmati Express collided with a stationary goods train near Chennai on Friday evening, injuring at least 19 individuals and derailing 13 of its coaches. The impact caused fires in two of the passenger train’s coaches at Kavaraipettai railway station, prompting immediate medical assistance.
Initial reports indicate that the train crew experienced a sudden jerk on the track, leading the express train to veer onto a loop line and crash into the parked goods train. Sources informed India Today TV that the train was traveling at 109 km/h when the crew felt the severe jolt, resulting in the collision.

Emergency response teams, including doctors, ambulances, and senior officials, were dispatched to the site, and all passengers have been successfully rescued.
Southern Railways announced that passengers are being transported by EMU to Chennai Central, with a new train prepared to continue their journey to Darbhanga or other destinations. Additionally, free food, water, and snacks are being provided to the passengers.
The accident has caused significant disruptions to train traffic along the route, leading to temporary service halts.
