John Schulman, a co-founder of OpenAI, has departed from the company to join the competing AI startup Anthropic. A spokesperson for OpenAI acknowledged Schulman’s significant contributions to the company, particularly in alignment research, and expressed gratitude for his work in laying a strong foundation for future advancements.
Schulman announced his decision on X, stating that he aims to explore new perspectives and engage with research topics of great interest at Anthropic. He expressed confidence in OpenAI’s continued success and the capability of his former teams to thrive without his presence.
