Pakistan Has Condemned The Assault On Its Consulate In Germany

In an unusual move, Pakistan’s Foreign Office summoned the German ambassador to Islamabad on Sunday to formally protest the vandalism at its consulate in Frankfurt. On Saturday, Afghan protesters targeted the consulate, scaling the walls to remove and attempt to burn the Pakistani flag, as seen in social media videos.

Around eight to ten Afghan nationals were involved in the incident, but no arrests have been reported by German police.

The Foreign Office condemned the attack, referring to the protesters as a “gang of extremists” and criticizing the German authorities for failing to protect the consulate. The statement emphasized that under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, Germany is responsible for safeguarding diplomatic premises and personnel.

The Foreign Office has demanded that Germany enhance security measures, apprehend those responsible, and address any security lapses.

The Pakistani Embassy in Berlin also denounced the act, assuring that efforts were underway to prevent a recurrence and bring the perpetrators to justice. The motive behind the protest remains unclear, but some suggest it was related to the alleged murder of Afghan poet and political leader Gilman Wazir.

The incident has further strained Pakistan-Afghanistan relations and sparked social media outrage among Pakistanis, who are frustrated with the actions of Afghans in a country that has provided refuge and opportunities for many.
