Taliban in Afghanistan name Mawlawi Abdul Kabir as their new leader.

A significant milestone is the appointment of Mawlawi Abdul Kabir as temporary prime minister and acting head of the government by Mullah Haibitullah Akhund, the top commander of the Afghan Taliban.

Because Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, the Taliban government’s acting leader, is unwell, Akhund made the statement.

The News guru was informed by sources that the former had a heart attack 45 days after visiting Kandahar for the Eid holidays but was unable to recuperate and continue his duties. The Taliban government’s official spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, has acknowledged that the acting premier is unwell with a number of ailments and would like to relax. The Haqqani network retains fewer posts in the government than the Kandahari Taliban, but insiders told.  The Newsguru that the move revealed that the new acting premier had close relations with Sirajuddin Haqqani and that it was done at his behest.

The choice was decided by Mullah Habitullah with input from the Taliban ranks, but it would also provide the Haqqanis a competitive advantage.

Mullah Hassan Akhund and Mawlawi Kabir, both prominent officials of the Afghan Taliban, had previously served as deputy prime ministers under the late Mullah Rabbani and members of the Supreme Council during the old Taliban rule (1996–2001).
