Turkey Restricts Access to Instagram

On Friday, Turkey’s Information and Communication Technologies Authority (TKM) blocked access to Instagram. The move followed criticism from Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, who accused the platform of censoring condolence messages for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was recently assassinated.

Altun argued that Instagram was preventing people from posting messages of support and described the action as blatant censorship. He condemned the platform for allegedly aligning with a global system of injustice.
