Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma announced at a New York travel conference that online passport renewal will be available nationwide for the first time.

The beta phase saw participation from around 200,000 people, and the State Department expects nearly 50% of future renewals to be processed online.

There are specific eligibility requirements for the online renewal process, such as being physically present in the U.S. and not having an expired passport for more than five years.
