The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has confirmed that January 1, 2025, will be an official public holiday for all private sector employees in the UAE. This announcement aligns with the UAE Cabinet’s decision on official holidays for both government and private sector workers. The holiday will mark the first of the year, falling on a Wednesday.

UAE residents can expect a total of up to 13 public holidays in 2025, although there will be significant changes, especially concerning the Islamic festival of Eid Al Fitr. Unlike previous years, the holiday will be shorter in 2025, with a maximum of four days off. The shorter break will be from Ramadan 30 to Shawwal 3, depending on the moon sighting.
In addition to Eid Al Fitr, Arafah Day on Dhul Hijjah 9 and the subsequent three-day holiday for Eid Al Adha from Dhul Hijjah 10-12 will offer further time off. These changes ensure a clear and structured holiday schedule, providing clarity for both residents and businesses.
The update reflects the UAE’s commitment to structured planning of holidays, allowing for better organization and preparation for businesses and employees alike.
