Woman Sentenced to Death for Poisoning Boyfriend After Breakup

A 24-year-old woman from Kerala, India, named Grishma, has been sentenced to death for the murder of her boyfriend, Shiron Raj, whom she poisoned after he refused to break up with her.

The incident occurred in 2022 when Grishma, unable to accept the end of their relationship, mixed poison into a herbal remedy and gave it to Raj. He died 11 days later from multiple organ failure.

Grishma had previously attempted to poison him by adding pills to fruit juice, but he rejected it due to its bitter taste.

Despite her academic accomplishments and being the only daughter of her parents, Grishma’s plea for leniency was rejected by the court, which emphasized the severity of her crime. The conviction was based on circumstantial, digital, and scientific evidence.

Her uncle, Nirmal Kumar Nair, was found guilty of destroying evidence related to the crime. The case has sparked widespread media coverage, raising concerns about domestic violence and controlling behaviors in relationships. Grishma’s mother, who was initially arrested, was later acquitted due to lack of evidence.
