Yashasvi Jaiswal Hits Maiden Double Century in Second Test Against England

In a remarkable performance on the second day of the second Test against England, 22-year-old Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved his maiden double century. Playing only his sixth Test, Jaiswal’s sensational innings propelled India to a total of 375 for 7 in 102 overs. The young cricketer’s achievement makes him the third youngest Indian to score a double hundred in Test cricket, hitting 18 fours and seven sixes along the way.

The record for the youngest Indian to score a double century is held by Vinod Kambli, who accomplished the feat at the age of 21 years and 335 days against England in 1993. Kambli also holds the record for the second youngest Indian double centurion, achieving his second successive double ton against Zimbabwe at the age of 21 years and 355 days. Before Kambli, Sunil Gavaskar held the record as the youngest Indian to score a double century, achieved in West Indies in 1971.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had previously scored 171 on his Test debut against the West Indies last year, demonstrated his batting prowess with this outstanding performance. He had also contributed 80 runs in the series opener in Hyderabad, where India suffered a 28-run loss.

Resuming his innings at 179, Jaiswal added an additional 28 runs on the second day in partnership with overnight batter Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored 20 before being dismissed by James Anderson. Jaiswal reached his double century milestone with a six and a four off Shoaib Bashir in the 102nd over. India had posted 336 for 6 on the first day of the Test match.
