LAHORE — In the face of security threats, Ashura processions will take held across Pakistan today, Saturday, under strong security measures.
Ashura, the commemorative day that falls every year on the 10th of Muharram, is being marked solemnly to pay honor to Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S. and other Karbala martyrs.
Thousands of mourners will take to the streets across the almost 250 million-person country, while thousands of police and other law enforcement employees will safeguard them.

The Sharif-led government in the center, as well as the provincial administrations, have adopted strict security measures on Youm-e-Ashoor. Pillion riding has been prohibited in some areas of the country, particularly in big cities, and cellular service has been suspended in some places due to security concerns.
In the aftermath of previous years’ suicide attacks and bloodshed, people and other forces increased security during Ashura. Paramilitary personnel have also been posted along the paths of Ashura processions in numerous cities, while armed forces are on standby and can be called in an emergency.
Lahore
The major procession in Punjab’s provincial capital will begin at the iconic Nisar Haveli and end at Karbala Gamay Shah at dusk.
Rawalpindi
The main procession in Rawalpindi’s garrison city will begin at Imambargah Ashiq Hussain.
Karachi
The biggest Ashura procession in the country’s largest metropolis will begin in Nishtar Park and will end at the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar in the evening.
Peshawar
The biggest Ashura procession in KP’s capital will begin at Imambargah Agha Syed Ali Shah Rizvi and will end in the evening.
Quetta
The main procession in Balochistan’s capital will start at Imambargah Nichari Alamdar Road and would end after Maghrib prayers.
