Zuckerberg: Meta Quest 3 Superior to Apple Vision Pro, $3000 Cheaper

Following his trial of the Apple Vision Pro, Mark Zuckerberg expressed dissatisfaction with the device, favoring Meta’s Quest 3 headset instead. While his preference might be anticipated given his role as Meta’s CEO, it underscores his support for the company’s product.

Zuckerberg shared his thoughts on the Apple Vision Pro in a recent Instagram post. He highlighted that not only is the Quest 3 significantly more affordable—being seven times less expensive than the Vision Pro—but it also surpasses its competitor in overall quality. According to him, for most mixed reality applications, the Quest 3 provides a superior user experience.

Illustrating the capabilities of the Quest 3’s Mixed Reality Passthrough, Zuckerberg showcased that the entire video was shot using this feature. He emphasized the enhanced comfort of the Quest, attributing it to the absence of wires hindering movement, along with a wider field of view and brighter screen.

Furthermore, Zuckerberg noted that the Quest delivers a sharper visual experience compared to the Vision Pro, which reportedly suffers from motion blur. While both products support hand tracking, he suggested that the Quest’s implementation may have a slight edge. However, he acknowledged the appeal of Apple’s eye-tracking technology and disclosed Meta’s plans to integrate similar sensors from the Quest Pro into future iterations of the device.

Concluding his remarks, Zuckerberg humorously teased Apple enthusiasts while highlighting Meta’s commitment to an open approach in the XR space. Drawing parallels to the historical dynamics between Microsoft/Windows and Apple, he positioned Meta as the “open model” akin to Microsoft, contrasting Apple’s perpetuation of “the closed model”.
