Minister Labels Digital Census a 'Strategic Resource

The Planning Minister, Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized the importance of utilizing the data collected through the 7th Population and Housing Census-2023 for informed policy-making. During his visit to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), he highlighted the significance of leveraging this data for strategic decision-making.

 

Iqbal announced plans to conduct the First Data Fest in Pakistan in 2024, aiming to bridge the gap between data producers and users. This festival will serve as a platform for government, private sectors, academia, and business communities to understand how to utilize data effectively for various purposes.

Dr. Naeem-uz-Zafar, the Chief Statistician, briefed the minister about the PBS’s initiative to implement an integrated digital count strategy, combining agriculture, mouza, and agricultural machinery counts into one census, known as the 7th Agricultural Census (Integrated and Digital count).

Furthermore, the PBS is preparing to launch the results of the 7th Population and Housing Census, which will be followed by the First Data Festival. Additionally, the PBS has completed the re-basing of the national accounts, a significant step toward improving GDP calculation methodologies.
