Catch Comet A3: Viewing Tips and Schedule

After the recent Total Solar Eclipse and Aurora Borealis, sky gazers have another celestial event to look forward to: Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS (C/2023 A3). This comet, currently between Mars and Jupiter, is gradually developing a tail and increasing its luminosity in the night sky, making it visible with a telescope.

Although comets can be unpredictable, astronomers anticipate that this comet will become particularly bright in October, possibly rivaling the brightness of Venus. This cosmic visitor, originating from the Oort Cloud, is expected to make its closest approach to the Sun on October 10, 2024, and will be visible from the northern hemisphere.

With luck, it may even be visible to the naked eye during October and November, earning it the title of “comet of the year.” Discovered in February 2023 by the ATLAS telescope in South Africa and China’s Tsuchinshan Observatory, Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS promises to be a captivating sight for sky watchers in the coming months.
