Pakistan Railways Plans to Solarize Stations, Offices, and Workshops

Pakistan Railways is beginning a transition to solar power for its stations, offices, workshops, and factories. The first phase of this initiative involves converting 99 key locations, including major train stations and divisional headquarters, to solar energy. The project, supported by the engineering consulting firm NESPAK, is expected to save Rs. 1.8 billion and aims to reduce the financial burden on the railway system.

The shift to solar power is designed to address rising energy costs and budget constraints while promoting sustainable energy practices. By moving towards solar energy, Pakistan Railways hopes to mitigate its economic challenges and reduce its environmental impact.
