Following a ransomware attack, the Election Commission issues a cyber security alert.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a cyber security alert after receiving emails from unknown senders.

ECP has indicated that someone is sending emails to its officers. “Please do not open this email; it is a Ransomware attack attempting to steal data.” Please disregard this email and report it as Spam/Junk,” stated a statement released by the Commission on Thursday for immediate distribution.

The Election Commission has directed its officers to disregard emails from unknown/anonymous sources.

Despite the ECP caution, it is unclear whether hackers/spammers gained access to critical data on all political parties as the country prepares for general elections in a few months.
