Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Readies Itself for Elections

As the nation braces itself for the upcoming general elections, preparations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have reached their apex, marked by the declaration of more than half of the polling stations as sensitive.

Provincial Election Commissioner Shamshad Khan, in a media briefing held in Peshawar, announced the finalization of all necessary arrangements for the elections scheduled for February 8.

A total of 15,696 polling stations have been set up across KP, catering to approximately 21.93 million eligible voters. Commissioner Khan provided insight into the gender distribution, revealing that there are 11,944,383 registered male voters and 8,373,799 female voters in the province.

Breaking down the polling stations, 4,810 have been designated for male voters, 4,287 for female voters, and 6,600 polling stations will serve both genders collectively. With 713 candidates competing for National Assembly seats and 1,814 candidates vying for Provincial Assembly seats, a substantial 454.4 million ballot papers have been printed for the election.

Security measures have been heightened, involving the deployment of police, Frontier Constabulary, and Pakistan Army personnel to ensure the safety and integrity of the polling process. To facilitate voters, arrangements for result announcements have been made at Qayyum Stadium, Eidgah, and the RO Office on Kohat Road in Peshawar, with military deployment to guarantee security during the result declaration process. The comprehensive preparations underscore the commitment to a smooth and secure electoral process in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
