President Alvi Suggests Electronic Voting Machines Could Have Averted Poll Result Delay Crisis

President Arif Alvi has expressed that the crisis arising from the delay in election results in Pakistan could have been averted if electronic voting machines (EVMs), a system fervently advocated by PTI during their tenure, were in operation.

In a post on X, the president reflected on the party’s persistent efforts to implement electronic voting machines, stating, ‘Remember our long struggle for electronic voting machines.’

“EVM had paper ballots that could be counted separately by hand (similar to the current manual counting process), BUT it also had a straightforward electronic calculator/counter for each vote button pressed. Totals for every candidate would have been available and printed within five minutes of the poll closing,” he explained.

He lamented that the comprehensive effort, which involved over 50 meetings at the Presidency alone, was ultimately scuttled.
