Punjab Provincial Election Commissioner Assures Readiness for General Elections

Ahead of the general elections in Punjab, Provincial Election Commissioner (PEC) Ijaz Anwar Chohan announced on Tuesday that all necessary preparations had been finalized for a smooth electoral process in the province.

During a press briefing, Chohan informed that the printing of ballot papers had been successfully completed and distributed to all district returning officers across Punjab. He assured that the returning officers would oversee the receipt of election materials by presiding officers and ensure the readiness of polling stations on Wednesday.

Chohan highlighted the comprehensive security, communication, and transportation plans devised for the elections. He mentioned the deployment of police and army personnel to maintain law and order at polling stations, underscoring the Election Commission’s commitment to fulfilling its constitutional obligations.

In his remarks, Chohan commended Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja for his efforts to enhance the electoral process and ensure the success of the 2024 General Elections. He also appreciated the support from the provincial caretaker government and governmental bodies, emphasizing the importance of coordination with district returning officers, commissioners, and police officials.

Chohan outlined the commission’s monitoring system, which includes regular communication with key stakeholders and prompt resolution of complaints received through various channels. He highlighted the operational control rooms at different levels to facilitate efficient management and response throughout the election process.

Regarding election management, Chohan discussed the implementation of the Election Management System (EMS) and the deployment of monitoring officers and teams to enforce the electoral code of conduct. He provided details about the extensive infrastructure, including polling stations, booths, and polling staff, catering to millions of registered voters across Punjab.

Addressing concerns about incidents in specific constituencies, Chohan confirmed the formation of a committee to investigate and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring a level playing field for all parties. He reiterated the commission’s dedication to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and pledged to take strict action against any interference to ensure peaceful general elections.
