‘Avoid Jeans, Makeup and High Heels’- New Dress Code Implemented for Government School Teachers

The Sindh Education Department has introduced new dress guidelines for government school teachers, outlining appropriate attire and professional conduct within institutions.

According to the directive, male teachers are advised to avoid wearing T-shirts and jeans, while female teachers are encouraged to refrain from excessive makeup, jewelry, and high heels. The guidelines emphasize dressing in a manner that upholds professional values and cultural norms.

Additionally, the department has strictly prohibited teachers from using gutka, naswar, cigarettes, or any other substances within school premises. Teachers are also barred from assigning personal errands to students. These regulations aim to foster a disciplined and conducive learning environment.

However, the Sindh Education Department later clarified that the dress code should not be interpreted as a strict ban on any specific clothing but rather as a set of recommendations. The code of conduct was developed through consultations with teachers’ associations, legal experts, and civil society representatives to ensure a balanced approach.
