September 6 is observed as National Defence Day in Pakistan, and while it has been an official holiday in the past, this year there will be no public holiday, according to the government’s clarification.
The Ministry of Information issued a statement refuting the viral notification claiming a public holiday, confirming it as false.
The Ministry of Information Fact Check page on X emphasized that spreading such false information is both “unethical” and illegal, warning that “disseminating #FakeNews not only breaks the law but also harms the nation.”
The government called on everyone to reject such irresponsible actions and concluded the post with the hashtag Reject #FakeNews.
Defence Day commemorates the sacrifices of soldiers during the 1965 War with India, marking Pakistan’s defense against the Indian forces’ border crossing. The day is celebrated as a victory over an unprovoked Indian attack.
In Pakistan, the day is observed with military parades, weaponry displays, and various ceremonies.
