PM Shehbaz Lands in Azerbaijan After Diplomatic Tour of Iran

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached Lachin, Azerbaijan on Tuesday after wrapping up his official visit to Iran, where he engaged in high-level discussions with the Iranian leadership on regional security and strengthening bilateral relations.

Upon landing in Azerbaijan, he was welcomed by the country’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov. The Prime Minister is set to take part in a significant trilateral summit alongside the leaders of Turkey and Azerbaijan. This summit aims to promote economic collaboration, enhance regional connectivity, and develop joint diplomatic strategies.

In addition, PM Shehbaz is expected to hold an important bilateral meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Officials said he will take the opportunity to thank Azerbaijan for its consistent support of Pakistan during periods of strained ties with India.

Iran Visit Highlights

Earlier, the Prime Minister visited Tehran, where he met Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. During a joint press conference, PM Shehbaz emphasized Pakistan’s readiness for peaceful dialogue with India, while cautioning that any hostile moves from New Delhi would face strong retaliation.

He also called on the international community to voice support for Palestinians in Gaza and reiterated Pakistan’s endorsement of Iran’s peaceful nuclear ambitions for civilian use.

President Peshmerga welcomed the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, urging sustained collaboration for regional stability. He also expressed solidarity on Gaza, praising Pakistan’s stance during the visit.

Meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei

In a separate meeting with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, PM Sharif briefed him on India’s recent escalatory actions and extended an invitation for an official visit to Pakistan. Ayatollah Khamenei, in a message shared on social media, acknowledged Pakistan’s crucial role in the Muslim world and called for united efforts to end Israel’s occupation of Gaza.

The Prime Minister also welcomed Iran’s renewed engagement in nuclear talks with the United States and expressed hope for a constructive outcome that would enhance peace in the region.

Delegation-Level Engagements

The visit also featured in-depth discussions at both individual and delegation levels between the Prime Minister and Iranian officials. A joint statement revealed that both nations reaffirmed their intent to resolve the Pak-Iran gas pipeline issue through continued consultation. Regional developments, including the situation in Afghanistan, were also on the agenda, with both sides underlining the importance of lasting peace in the neighboring country for overall regional progress.
