Police fired on protesters and used excessive force: Human Rights Watch

Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in a statement that following the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan, police fired on and used excessive force against protesters.

“The government’s cutting of mobile internet services, as well as restrictions on access to Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms, is overbroad and indiscriminate, in violation of basic rights,” it said.

“The Pakistani government should uphold the right to peaceful protest while using the least amount of force necessary to respond to violence,” said Patricia Gossman, associate Asia director at Human Rights Watch. “Criminal acts should be investigated promptly and appropriately prosecuted.”
