Police raid Javed Hashmi's residence, arrest son-in-law and servants

Police conducted a raid at the home of senior politician Javed Hashmi, and arrested his son-in-law and servants. Javed Hashmi, sharing the incident on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stated that the police entered his residence in the Makhdoom Rashid area during a Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers’ convention.

According to Hashmi, the police forcefully broke doors, mistreated women, and took his son-in-law and grandson into custody without a warrant. However, the police denied making any arrests during the raid.

Javed Hashmi had earlier withdrawn his candidacy, supporting the local PTI candidate from NA-149 Multan. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had accepted Hashmi’s nomination papers for the upcoming general elections as an independent candidate from the NA-149 constituency. In a twist of events, last month, Hashmi had expressed his support for Imran Khan and the beleaguered PTI.

In a press conference he announced, “I am announcing my withdrawal as a candidate from the general elections on February 8 and joining the PTI fold with all my strength.”

Hashmi added, “I will ask for votes not for myself but for the PTI candidate”.
