Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sets New Minimum Wage

In a major effort to support the labor force, the Punjab government has announced an increase in the minimum monthly wage for workers to 37,000 rupees, as directed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The wage for unskilled laborers has been raised from 32,000 rupees to 37,000 rupees per month. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of ensuring this minimum wage is provided to all daily wage and unskilled workers. According to the government’s notification, the daily wage for an 8-hour workday will be 1,423.07 rupees.

Maryam Nawaz explained that this new minimum wage is in accordance with the current budget, affirming the government’s duty to protect the rights of every laborer in the province. She instructed stakeholders to be promptly informed to enforce the new wage.

She expressed concern over workers not receiving their full wages and noted that labor laws are often not applied to domestic workers. She emphasized the need for strict implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines in the workplace.
