Shehbaz, Rubio Discuss Peace Efforts Amid Iran-Israel Tensions

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a cordial and wide-ranging telephone conversation to discuss regional peace and strengthen bilateral ties, according to statements released by both the U.S. State Department and the Prime Minister’s Office.

During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciated what he described as the bold leadership of former U.S. President Donald Trump in securing a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. He also thanked Secretary Rubio for the U.S.’s facilitation of peace efforts between Pakistan and India.

Both leaders agreed on the need for continued collaboration, particularly in trade and economic sectors, to deepen Pakistan-U.S. relations. Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts, especially in the Middle East.

Secretary Rubio, in turn, acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role and stressed the importance of ensuring Iran never develops or acquires a nuclear weapon. He reiterated the U.S. interest in working with Pakistan to maintain regional peace and stability.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with former President Trump at the White House. The meeting, attended by senior officials from both sides, focused on the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, with a shared emphasis on diplomatic resolution and regional security cooperation.
