KARACHI – The Sindh government has officially announced the routes for Karachi Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. The BRT Yellow Line will exclusively use electric buses, making it Pakistan’s first fully eco-friendly transit line.
Sindh’s Senior Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, shared the update during a meeting with a World Bank delegation. The meeting took place at the Yellow Line project site near Jam Sadiq Bridge.
The Yellow Line BRT will begin from Dawood Chowrangi in Quaidabad. It will end at Numaish, where it will merge with the Red Line. The route will cover major areas including Korangi Industrial Area, Main Korangi Road, FTC Interchange, Sharea Faisal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, and Kashmir Road.
Funded by the World Bank, the Yellow Line is expected to provide safe, fast, and low-cost transport to the people of Karachi. Minister Memon called the project a “visionary step” toward sustainable urban mobility.
He emphasized that only electric buses will be used on this route to reduce fuel consumption and air pollution. The move aligns with the government’s broader plan to promote clean energy solutions in the transport sector.
Memon also highlighted other successful eco-friendly transport initiatives launched under their leadership. These include Pakistan’s first electric bus service and the women-only Pink Bus service, both of which are currently operational.
He noted that more than 8,000 women have applied for the new electric scooter scheme. This scheme aims to offer safe and independent mobility for working women in the city.
Calling the Yellow Line a “foundation for social change,” Memon said the project goes beyond just transportation. It supports economic development and aims to improve the overall quality of life in Karachi.
The minister also updated the World Bank delegation on progress in other key infrastructure projects. These include the Karachi Circular Railway and the Karachi-Sukkur high-speed rail.
To boost foreign and local investment, the Sindh government has introduced special economic zones with a 10-year tax exemption.
