Sohaib Maqsood’s Bribery Allegations Lead to Arrests and Suspension of Sindh Police Officials

Allegations of extortion and bribery lodged by national cricketer Sohaib Maqsood against Sindh police officials have led to a series of arrests and suspensions within the law enforcement ranks.

At least four Sindh police officials found themselves in custody on Tuesday, while two others faced immediate suspension following accusations leveled by the cricketer, prompting an outcry against corruption within the police force.

The uproar began when Maqsood took to a popular social media platform to share his distressing encounter, where he denounced the conduct of Sindh police officers, labeling them as “corrupt.” Narrating the ordeal, he lamented the extortion and threats he faced while traveling from Karachi to Multan by road.

“We are so lucky that we live in Punjab, not in Sindh. First time in my life, I am traveling from Karachi to Multan by Road and Sindh police is so corrupt,” Maqsood wrote, expressing his dismay at the alleged misconduct. He detailed instances where officers demanded money or threatened to involve individuals in unnecessary police procedures.

The cricketer, highlighting the ordeal faced by him and his companion Aamir Yamin, revealed, “We told them that we are international cricketers traveling to Multan after our match in Karachi; they still took 8000 rupees and then let us go.”

Promptly responding to the outcry, Sindh Inspector General Raffat Raja initiated an immediate inquiry into the matter, emphasizing the necessity for stringent actions against the implicated officials.

Maqsood, in conversations with local media outlets, recounted the distressing incident that unfolded as he departed Karachi with Aamir Yamin after their team’s concluding match in the ongoing National T20 Cup. The cricketer expressed disappointment as their team failed to qualify for the succeeding round of the tournament.

The allegations made by Sohaib Maqsood have drawn attention to the issue of corruption within law enforcement, sparking an urgent need for investigation and accountability to maintain public trust in the police force.
