Fearing damages from the Biparjoy storm, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) urged telecom operators to develop an emergency response plan.

PTA has asked telecom firms to develop and implement a backup plan for cyclone-affected areas.

According to sources, at this meeting, the PTA advised the telecoms to keep 8 to 12 hours of petrol backup to safeguard the availability of telecom services during the Biparjoy storm.

The PTA has urged telecom operators to station technical teams in storm-prone locations so that any infrastructure damage can be fixed or replaced as soon as possible.

According to IT Ministry officials, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications, and federal and provincial governments are all on the same page, and the situation is being closely monitored.

Because telecommunications services were disrupted in the Murree incident and flood in 2022, Federal Minister Syed Aminul Haq has recommended that precautionary precautions be taken this time.

Aminul Haq’s visit to Islamabad has been cancelled, according to reports. He plans to stay in Karachi for two to three days to examine the situation with telecom services.
