Palestinians Gather At A Ruined Mosque For Eid Ul Adha Prayers While Muslims Celebrate Worldwide

Dozens of Palestinians gathered near the ruins of a mosque destroyed by Israeli airstrikes to perform Eid al-Adha prayers.

Surrounded by debris and collapsed houses, they prayed at the former site of the al Rahma mosque in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, marking the start of the major holiday.

Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the two main Islamic holidays, alongside Eid al-Fitr. During this festival, Muslims with means commemorate Ibrahim’s test of faith by slaughtering livestock and distributing some meat to the poor.

“Today, after nine months, there are more than 37,000 martyrs, over 87,000 wounded, and hundreds of thousands of homes destroyed,” said Abdulhalim Abu Samra, a displaced Palestinian, after prayers in Khan Younis. “Our people live in difficult circumstances.”

In Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, Muslims prayed in a school-turned-shelter, while some, including women and children, visited cemeteries to pay respects at the graves of loved ones.

Palestinians also gathered at the al-Aqsa compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, in Jerusalem’s Old City, where the Dome of the Rock shrine is located.
