The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed player remuneration details under their central contracts, following the team’s early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. This has led the board to consider revising these contracts, potentially demoting some players or removing others entirely.
Currently, Category A players, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi, earn Rs4.5 million monthly. Category B players like Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah receive Rs3 million per month. Category C players, such as Imad Wasim, earn between Rs750,000 to Rs1.5 million monthly. Similarly, Category D players, including Iftikhar Ahmed, Hasan Ali, and Saim Ayub, fall within the same salary range as Category C.

These amounts reflect only the players’ monthly salaries. They also earn match fees, win bonuses across all formats (Test, ODI, T20I), and benefit from sponsorship deals. The current three-year central contracts, implemented on July 1, 2023, were established under pressure from players for higher pay during Zaka Ashraf’s tenure as PCB chairman.
There is speculation that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan might lose their Category A status. However, sources indicate that the national cricketers’ salaries will not be reduced. Concerns also arise that players might reject central contracts if demoted, choosing to play without restrictions instead.
The PCB awaits a report from head coach Gary Kirsten before making final decisions. Additionally, a report from senior manager Wahab Riaz will be reviewed to inform these decisions.
