Indian tennis legend Sania Mirza released an official statement confirming her divorce from veteran Pakistan cricket star Shoaib Malik, stating that they have been divorced for a “few months.”
The statement emphasized Sania’s desire for privacy during this sensitive period and urged fans and well-wishers to refrain from speculation. The announcement came a day after Shoaib Malik married popular Pakistani actress Sana Javed. The statement acknowledged Sania’s decision to share the information publicly and wished Shoaib well in his new journey. The couple had faced ongoing rumors about their relationship status, with speculations escalating in early 2022, leading to changes in their social media accounts and the deletion of shared photographs.

Shoaib Malik had announced his marriage to Sana Javed on social media, posting pictures from their wedding ceremony. Sana Javed also confirmed their marriage by changing her Instagram bio to Sana Shoaib Malik. Despite the divorce, Sania and Shoaib had attended their son Izhaan’s 5th birthday in Dubai the previous year.
The rumors of their separation had been circulating, but the couple had not publicly addressed the speculations until now. The family source revealed that it was a ‘khula,’ referring to the Muslim woman’s right to unilaterally divorce her husband.
