Sony's Indirect Confirmation of PlayStation 5 Pro Leaks

Earlier this week, leaks circulating about the PlayStation 5 Pro hinted at significant advancements in ray tracing and rendering performance. Sony has indirectly acknowledged these reports by launching an internal investigation into the leaks.

Despite the continuous leaks, Sony has chosen to remain silent and has not officially confirmed the existence of a PS5 Pro. However, the leaks over the past few months have provided detailed insights into what could be expected.

According to these leaks, the PS5 Pro is anticipated to receive a boost in memory bandwidth, potentially reaching 28% higher than the standard PS5. The console’s CPU may implement a feature similar to gaming PC CPUs called “CPU High Frequency Mode,” allowing for a boost in clock speeds by up to 10%, albeit with a slight compromise on GPU power. This enhancement could prove beneficial for CPU-intensive games like Overwatch 2.

Additionally, improvements are expected in the audio segment, with enhanced performance in convolution reverb and FFT/IFFT processing attributed to a boosted Audio Co-Processor (ACV) running frequency.

However, recent leaks have suggested even more impressive upgrades, including a reported 45% improvement in rendering performance and up to 2 to 3 times enhancement in ray tracing capabilities, which appears remarkable on paper. In select cases, ray tracing performance may even see a fourfold increase, according to the leak, owing to the rumored 33.5 Teraflops of processing power of the PS5 Pro.

AI enhancements are also reportedly in the pipeline, introducing features such as “Spectral Super Resolution” (PSSR) technology to achieve higher FPS at high resolutions, including 4K 120 FPS and potentially even 8K 60 FPS. While these advancements boast impressive numbers, it’s advisable to approach them with cautious optimism until real-life performance benchmarks are revealed.
