Pakistan’s star fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has shared his excitement ahead of the upcoming 15th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL), expressing his strong desire to dismiss top-tier batters such as Babar Azam, Steve Smith, and David Warner during the tournament.
In a recent podcast interview, the 25-year-old left-arm pacer was asked which of the three players’ wickets would mean the most to him. Shaheen, however, didn’t single out any one name, saying, “All three are important. They’re top players for their respective teams, and I’d love to get each of them out.”

Afridi is set to represent Brisbane Heat in what will be his debut BBL season. He also praised the growing participation of Pakistani players in the Australian franchise league, noting that six to seven are expected to take part this year. “It’s exciting to compete against teammates from the PSL like Babar, Rizwan, and Shadab. These guys are match-winners and have made their mark internationally,” he said.
Shaheen believes this increase in Pakistani representation will add more thrill to the league, especially for the Pakistani diaspora in Australia. “Fans, particularly Pakistani supporters, will enjoy these matchups. Playing against your own teammates on a different platform makes it even more interesting,” he added.
Famous for his explosive first overs and animated celebrations, Afridi is aiming to replicate that early impact in the BBL. “Taking a wicket in the first over would be special again. I’ll channel all my energy into the celebration, and having the crowd behind me will make it even more electric,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of fan support, saying it elevates a player’s performance. “Hearing fans – whether Pakistani or Australian – chant ‘Afridi’ while I’m at the top of my run-up will be an incredible boost.”
Afridi also had high praise for Babar Azam, calling him one of the most consistent batters in world cricket. “He scores everywhere, fans love him, and he delivers on big occasions. He’s a global cricketing figure,” Shaheen remarked.
Looking forward to the season, Shaheen shared his goal of helping Brisbane Heat clinch the BBL trophy, which would make his first season even more memorable. “It would be amazing to win another title. We’ve already won three in the PSL, and a lot depends on how the management supports you. Brisbane Heat is a strong team, and I’m optimistic about adding another trophy to the cabinet,” he concluded.
