Gemini: Google's Upcoming AI Software

Alphabet’s Google has reportedly provided early access to its conversational artificial intelligence (AI) software, known as Gemini, to a select group of companies, according to sources cited by The Information. Gemini is designed to compete with OpenAI’s GPT-4 model.

Google has been increasing its investments in generative AI to catch up with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which made waves in the tech industry when it was launched last year with backing from Microsoft.

Gemini comprises large-language models that can be used for chatbots, text summarization, generating original text, writing code, and creating images based on user requests. While Google is currently offering access to a relatively large version of Gemini, it is also developing a larger version that will be more on par with GPT-4.

Google plans to make Gemini available to companies through its Google Cloud Vertex AI service. The company has been expanding its use of generative AI, recently introducing it into its Search tool for users in India and Japan.

Google has not officially commented on the reports about Gemini’s early access release.
