Running until May 25, the event highlights the deep-rooted heritage of Islamic art and the centuries-old tradition of Kiswa production.

Located at the Hajj terminal of Jeddah Airport, the exhibition takes visitors through each stage of the Kiswa-making process, from selecting high-quality silk to its final preparations before being placed on the Holy Kaaba.

The Kiswa is manufactured at the King Abdulaziz Complex in Makkah, where more than 200 artisans and administrative staff work diligently on its production.

The facility houses specialized departments for dyeing, weaving, printing, and embroidery, and is equipped with the world’s tallest computerized sewing machine.

The production of the Kiswa requires approximately 1,000 kg of black-dyed silk, along with 120 kg of gold threads and 100 kg of silver threads.

Every year, on the first day of the Islamic lunar Hijri year, the Kiswa is ceremonially replaced at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Islam’s most sacred site.

The biennale also explores the evolution of Kiswa-making, shedding light on the advanced artistic techniques that have preserved its spiritual and cultural significance over the centuries.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced the opening of Hajj 2025 registration for domestic pilgrims, including Saudi citizens and residents.
