Israeli Air Strike Hits Gaza School Shelter, Killing 10 Including Child

At least 10 people, among them a child, lost their lives in an Israeli air strike that ignited a fire at a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City, local emergency services reported early Wednesday. The Yafa School, which had been housing families displaced by ongoing conflict, was engulfed in flames following the attack.

Footage from the scene showed scorched tents, charred beds, and melted canvas, painting a grim picture of destruction. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as the fire rapidly consumed the shelter’s makeshift structures, leaving little time for escape.

The strike was part of a night of intense bombardment across Gaza, including heavy shelling and multiple air raids. In Gaza City’s Tuffah neighborhood, rescue crews struggled to reach victims trapped beneath the rubble of two residential buildings. Efforts were hindered by military restrictions, as the area was labeled a “no-go zone” by Israeli forces.

Casualties were also reported elsewhere in the Strip. In northern Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp, two people—including a child—were killed, while a drone strike on shelters in the southern al-Mawasi region left one dead and several injured. Al-Mawasi had previously been declared a “safe zone” for civilians.

The humanitarian crisis deepens as Israel maintains a total blockade on aid to Gaza, citing efforts to recover hostages. Since October 2023, Gaza’s health ministry reports more than 51,000 Palestinians have been killed. The Israeli government has not yet issued a statement regarding the latest attacks.
