Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) summons regarding an alleged breach of the election code. The case is now under review in the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
Afridiโs legal team argued that the summons were unwarranted and lacked proper legal basis, requesting the court to suspend ECP proceedings until further review. The challenge comes amid heightened political scrutiny ahead of upcoming provincial elections.
The ECP had issued the summons citing violations of the election code, which govern campaign conduct and official statements by public representatives. Observers say the PHCโs decision could set a precedent for how elected officials are held accountable under electoral law.
