Karachi residents are facing temporary water supply disruptions as the Dhabeji Grid Station goes offline for annual maintenance. The shutdown raises concerns over a potential shortage of nearly 100 million gallons.
K-Electric has issued a schedule for maintenance at the Dhabeji substation and grid station, which will affect electricity and, consequently, the city’s water supply. A formal shutdown request has been submitted to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) ahead of the work.
According to officials, maintenance will take place on Thursday, November 27, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., lasting a total of 12 hours. During this period, power supply will be partially suspended to several feeders of the Dhabeji pumping station, impacting water distribution across the city.
The Water Corporation confirmed that Dhabeji supplies around 650 million gallons of water daily to Karachi. Despite the shutdown, about 550 million gallons per day will continue to flow, minimizing the overall impact.
Areas expected to face the most significant disruption include Landhi, Korangi, and Shah Faisal Colony. Meanwhile, Defence, Chanesar Town, Jinnah Town, North Nazimabad, and Gulberg Town may experience partial water supply interruptions.
Authorities from K-Electric and the Water Corporation have advised residents to store sufficient water in advance and avoid unnecessary usage during the maintenance period. Both agencies emphasized that the shutdown is temporary and necessary to ensure the reliability of electricity and water services.
Residents are urged to remain patient and follow official updates to stay informed about the restoration of full water supply. The maintenance work is part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and prevent future breakdowns in the city’s water and electricity systems.
