Video shows two Palestinian men being fatally shot by Israeli forces despite raising their hands and posing no threat, sparking outrage from the Palestinian Authority (PA). The PA condemned the killings as โbrutalโ field executions and labeled them a potential โwar crime.โ
The incident took place during an Israeli operation in Jenin, part of a months-long campaign in northern West Bank cities. The Israeli military and police stated the men were wanted and allegedly linked to a terror network. The military added that the case is under review.
In the footage, video shows the two men exiting a building entrance with their hands raised. Several Israeli border guards surround them as they kneel on the ground. One man lifts his t-shirt, seemingly to show he is unarmed. Moments later, after appearing to be ordered back into the building, the Border Police open fire, instantly killing both.
Israelโs far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir publicly supported the officers involved. On his X account, he wrote, โThe fighters acted exactly as expected of them.โ Israeli forces claimed that a surrender procedure lasting several hours was followed before the suspects exited the building.
Violence in the West Bank has increased sharply since Israelโs military campaign in Gaza began following Hamasโ October 2023 attack on southern Israel. The Jenin raid follows similar operations in nearby cities, including Tubas on Wednesday.
The United Nations reports that over 1,000 Palestinians, including civilians and armed group members, have been killed in the West Bank since the conflict escalated. The recent killings captured in the footage have heightened tensions and drawn international concern over potential violations of human rights.
Eyewitnesses say video shows a deliberate targeting of the men despite compliance, intensifying calls for investigations into Israelโs military operations in occupied Palestinian territories.
