Peshawar authorities have taken swift action after a CCTV operator arrested for secretly recording women and attempting to blackmail them. The arrest followed a complaint lodged with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
According to officials, the accused, identified as Imran, pretended to be interested in marriage to gain the victim’s trust. He then obtained compromising photos and videos and demanded a ransom of Rs2 million. He also threatened to release the footage publicly. In a disturbing move, he sent inappropriate videos to the victim’s brother-in-law to intimidate her further.
The NCCIA acted quickly, arranging a covert meeting with the suspect at Tattara Park. During the operation, the CCTV operator arrested was caught red-handed, and authorities recovered crucial evidence, including an iPhone 12 Pro Max, WhatsApp chats, and numerous secret videos of women.
Further investigation revealed that the accused worked as a CCTV operator at the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC) hospital. Officials discovered that several videos from the hospital’s women’s ward were among the material found in his possession. This revelation has intensified the case and added serious criminal charges.
The NCCIA confirmed that the suspect will face multiple charges, including blackmail, illegal recording, and harassment. Authorities emphasized the importance of timely reporting and warned others against such criminal behavior.
This case has raised concerns about privacy and security within public institutions. Citizens have urged stricter monitoring of CCTV operators and staff handling sensitive areas in hospitals and other facilities.
The arrest marks a significant step in combating cybercrime in Pakistan. With the CCTV operator arrested, authorities hope to prevent similar incidents and reassure the public that such violations of privacy will not go unpunished.
