A massive sculpture of the national animal, the Markhor, has been installed at the scenic Shah Daoud Palace in Bata Kundi. The unveiling of the World’s largest Markhor has drawn attention from tourists and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
Engineer Muhammad Shehzad, the creator of the sculpture, told ARY News that the Markhor is the region’s most magnificent symbol. He said the artwork aims to highlight the animal’s importance and promote its conservation.
Standing at 105 feet high and 38 feet wide, the World’s largest Markhor sculpture took five years to complete. Its imposing size and intricate design reflect the natural beauty of Pakistan and the uniqueness of the Markhor.
The structure is expected to boost tourism in the area and raise awareness about the conservation of Pakistan’s national animal. The Markhor is known for its long, spiral horns, which can grow more than 1.5 meters (150 inches) in males, and its agility in mountainous terrains.
Markhors are primarily found in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chitral, Kohistan, and Kalam regions, as well as in Gilgit-Baltistan, parts of Balochistan, and Azad Kashmir. Their presence in the country highlights Pakistan’s diverse wildlife and rich natural heritage.
Engineer Shehzad emphasized that the sculpture will serve as a symbol of national pride and environmental awareness. Visitors to Shah Daoud Palace can now admire the artistic representation of the Markhor, which combines cultural significance with wildlife conservation.
The installation of the World’s largest Markhor is also a tribute to Pakistan’s unique wildlife and the efforts being made to protect endangered species. Conservationists hope that such initiatives will inspire further awareness and actions to safeguard the country’s natural treasures.
